Unhappiness arises from a sense of failure or inadequacy, from being shown up, or from being hurt.
These can erupt into externalizing behaviour like vandalism, bullying or defiance. And may also lead to withdrawn, anxious and passive or internalizing behaviour. The student may end up being anxious or depressed. This can then affect her attention, motivation and even language processing.

The ability to pay attention is basic to all learning but this ability is closely related to emotional well-being. Other factors like lack of sleep, hunger, studying in a second language, monotonous teaching or illness like middle ear effusion can also affect attention. Problems like ADHD should be ruled out.
Teachers can do much to improve the learning environment. The lessons should be taught in an interesting way, using audiovisuals, more student participation and even peer to peer teaching. Fear and punishment should not be used to increase a child’s obedience. Mutual respect is the key. The unnecessary burden of work can be avoided.
Thus if all the four blocks are stable and firm then a child’s learning ability improves and he can overcome other problems like learning difficulties more easily.
